Waste not, want not
Turning wood shavings into fuel that heats a workshop was the aim of a Dales-based cabinet and furniture making business, Kent Furniture Ltd. The company compresses waste wood shavings in a briquette-making machine. The main objective was to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions by recycling a waste product that will then be used in a wood-burning stove to provide heating.
The applicant is an established family business, based in Grassington that sells furniture to individuals in the UK and overseas. They employ local craftsmen to create traditional high quality furniture using timber from sustainable and managed environments. The £4,500 grant helped to pay for the briquette making equipment.
