Butchers and cheesemongers

With great fresh local ingredients to hand it is no surprise that there are some superb producers of meats, cheeses and bread nearby.

There are traditional butchers such as Steadmans in Sedbergh,  W S Hartle in West Burton and Weatheralds with shops in Grassington and Pateley Bridge – UK butcher of the year 2014.

Paganum Produce uses traditional and rare breed stock to produce a range of meat products. This includes their award winning Yorkshire Chorizo. They employ traditional methods of farming and ways of hanging, preparing and cutting meat.

Hawes is the home of the justifiably famous Wensleydale Cheese. Nearby you will find Ribblesdale Cheese and over the hill will put you into the home of Swaledale Cheese. Then there is the Courtyard Dairy for cheese that is just that little bit special and unusual. Andy and Kathy will tempt you with an exciting selection of some of the finest unpasteurised farmhouse cheeses to be found in Europe. No wonder they won the award of Cheesemonger of the Year 2013.
