Within the National Park, there are over 2600km of paths open to the public. We develop and manage this network of routes to enable use and enjoyment of the National Park.
Find out about the different types of path, who can use them and what you need to do to help protect wildlife and farmers' animals. You may want to know more about walking on access land or which unsurfaced green lanes are legal to drive on. We also have information on metal detecting and drone flying.
Working with a wide range of organisations and recreational groups we produced a Recreation Charter. The purpose of this ‘charter’ or ‘accord’ is to show the Authority’s commitment to access and recreation and willingness to work with other organisations in managing and improving access and recreation.
You can also find details of any closures that have been made to rights of way or access land.
