The Yorkshire Dales is a fabulous place to go walking whether you are looking for a gentle riverside stroll or a hike on a wild and empty moorland.
Starting out when walking
If you find walking a challenge or your group includes a wheelchair or buggy then have a look in our Access for all section.
If your navigation is not up to scratch or you are not a confident walker, you can always join a guided walk. Or you might prefer one of the suggested short walks which are based around village centres. There are also a series of audio trails which you can download to your MP3 player which will guide you around a trail and tell you about interesting places en route.
If you want to climb a peak then we have lots of suggestions - there is a lot more to go at than the famous Three Peaks. The National Park is criss-crossed with some superb long distance trails for a fantastic experience lasting several days.
If you are planning to walk with your dog please visit Dogs and the Dales page for useful tips.
Please always follow the Countryside Code.
Staying safe when walking
It's brilliant to get out into the great outdoors but it is also vital that you stay safe. Find out what you need to do before heading out into the hills and what to do in an emergency in Take care while you're here.
