Kirkby Lonsdale is a photogenic and historic market town in the heart of the Lune Valley. Its many old buildings – often dating back hundreds of years - are clustered around quaint streets and squares. There is now a great range of independent shops, cafes, pubs and hotels which give it a unique atmosphere.
Take a walk alongside the river to visit Devil’s Bridge which spectacularly crosses the River Lune. There is great picnic area to enjoy by the river or buy a mug of tea from the famous snack wagon.
Also a short walk away is Ruskin’s view, a well known viewpoint over the river which was painted by the renowned artist JMW Turner.
If golf is your thing, then there are two courses to play on. Kirkby Lonsdale Golf is an 18 hole course set in the undulating countryside and offers ‘stay and play’ packages with unlimited golf and local overnight accommodation. Casterton Golf Club is open all year round and includes a delightful 9 hole course which also offers a Par 3 course ideal for beginners. Separate from the main golf course is a Footgolf course, a fantastic new sport which combines the skills of football and golf, designed to test every players ability whether young, old or a professional footballer.
There is a lot more information about the town on its website.
There are regular local bus services to and from Kendal, Lancaster, Skipton and Sedbergh
