Cautley Spout

Unlike many of the National Park's waterfalls, this spectacular water feature can be seen from miles away. Reaching the top is quite a feat as the smooth grassy slope beside it is very steep. In the valley below, archaeologists have discovered an Iron Age settlement with a stone-lined avenue leading towards the foot of the falls. It may be that there was some form of ritual or worship taking place around the waterfall. Read more about the Cautley Iron Age settlement on our Out of Oblivion website.

The nearest town to Cautley Spout is Sedbergh, but if you want to do a short walk to the falls then the best place to park is close to the Cross Keys Inn. This lovely National Trust owned property is a great place for a spot of lunch.
