With partners we are working to provide access to high quality broadband (>10mbps) across the whole National Park by 2019, and further increase access to super-fast broadband.
Progress so far
Across the National Park, some 8,000 of the 11,000 properties (71%) have access to superfast broadband installed through ‘Superfast North Yorkshire’ or ‘Connecting Cumbria’. In addition, there are 8 local wireless broadband schemes providing differing levels of speed.
Future plans
North Yorkshire County Council is working in partnership with BT, providing superfast broadband to many of the National Park's towns and larger villages. Further details of this rollout can be found on the Superfast North Yorkshire website.
Reaching the remainder of the National Park, including some of the more remote areas, will prove more challenging. Further work will take place over the coming years to identify innovative means of bridging the gap.
Community internet providers
A number of successful community internet providers are already playing their part, for example in Upper Wharfedale .
