With its stone cottages, rather grand town hall (the former Mechanics Institute) and busy cobbled square, this former leadmining village is a focal point for local and visitor activity.
Festivals galore
The village hosts a splendid music and arts event, the Grassington Festival, each June, and the celebrated Dickensian Festival each December. A new addition to the calendar is a 1940s weekend in September, which goes from strength to strength.
Refreshments
Along the bustling Main Street there is an excellent range of places to eat and drink, from a traditional pub like The Foresters Arms to fine dining at Grassington House Hotel. The vegetarian menu at The Retreat Café would satisfy the hungriest walker while delicious gourmet ready-meals and sandwiches can be bought at the Relish deli.
The village is crammed with independant retailers including several outdoor clothing shops and others selling souvenirs, gifts and furniture. A thriving Post Office stands next to The Wine Shop which stocks an incredible range of Yorkshire bottled beers.
Walking
There are some magnificent walks from the village itself, including the popular Dales Way alongside the River Wharfe, more energetic walks over Grassington Moor to see the leadmining remains or wanders to charming nearby villages such as Burnsall, Thorpe, Linton and Hebden. You can even stay in Grassington and walk the Dales Way in stages between Ilkley, Bolton Abbey and Buckden by using local bus services. Grassington is also on the Yorkshire Dales Cycle Way and a popular stopping point close to the Way of the Roses.

Getting here
There is a large National Park car park which also acts as an interchange for bus services and for coach parking. Buses are most frequent from Skipton and Ilkley.
