Ingleborough Cave is one of three show caves in the Yorkshire Dales; the others being White Scar Cave and Stump Cross Caverns. It is reached by a lovely walk along a nature trail which starts in the village of Clapham and has been a visitor attraction since 1837.
The passages of the cave are floodlit and there are well laid concrete paths so usual outdoor clothing and footwear are sufficient. An expert guide meets you at the entrance to the cave and takes you through the system, interpreting the many cave features along the way. You can visit the cave in all weathers.
Beyond the showcave, Ingleborough Cave is linked through complicated underground passages to the Gaping Gill system. It took many years for this link to be made with a through trip not completed until 1983.
If you want to explore beyond the show cave this can be arranged through Clapham Adventure.
