Great Douk Cave

Great Douk Cave is a shallow cave system on the western slope of Ingleborough which is reached along the main path which starts from close to the Hill Inn. The entrance is in the bottom of a large depression where a small waterfall emerges from an underground passage. This passage can be followed for a considerable distance and it is possible to reappear from Middle Washfold caves. This makes it a popular cave with beginners and guided groups as it offers a great experience with a stream passage, a squeeze and a surprise exit.

This whole area is dotted with caves and potholes as the streams that flow down the slopes of Ingleborough reach the limestone and disappear underground. If you would like to go caving, why not team up with a local guide - see our call in the experts page for details.
