Chapel-le-Dale is a broad U-shaped dale that stretches from the outskirts of Ingleton, and rises up past the stunning Ribblehead Viaduct before merging into the upper moorland of the Yorkshire Dales.
The Three Peaks
The sides of the Dale are dominated by the dramatic peaks of Ingleborough on one side and Whernside on the other, with the third of the three peaks - Pen-y-Ghent - in neighbouring Ribblesdale. The landscape is characterised by flat plateaus of limestone with the peaks above them.
Walking routes
It is a popular spot for walks, criss-crossed by many paths such as the Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk, The Ingleton Waterfalls Trail and the Dales High Way.
Attractions and refreshments
Besides the attraction of the natural beauty visitors are drawn to the Dale for the White Scar Caves, the Ribblehead Viaduct and Settle-Carlise Railway. Hidden away in Chapel-le-Dale is the lovely little church of St Leonard's which includes a memorial to those that died building the Ribblehead viaduct.
Refreshment is available at the Old Hill Inn halve way up the valley and the Station Inn close to Ribblehead.
