Arant Haw lies north of Sedbergh and is often visited as part of circular walks taking in the main summits of the Howgills.
One route to the top from Sedbergh runs up Settlebeck Gill and there are two others out of the town off the Roman road called Howgill Lane. They pass each side of Winder (473m/1,551ft) then carry on up to the summit of Arant Haw, which is marked by a collapsed cairn.
From the top it is possible to see Morecombe Bay and the Lune valley to the west and the Three Peaks – Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent – to the south.
Carrying on from Arant Haw, the route leads up to Calders (674m/2,211ft) – deviating to visit Little and Great Dummacks beyond – finally reaching the highest point of the Howgills at The Calf, which stands on the National Park boundary at a height of 676m (2,220ft).
