Burnsall Fell

A large area of moorland and hill pasture owned by the Bolton Abbey Estate. An open access agreement with the estate allows free access to the moor except when they are shooting, check at Grassington National Park Centre for details. No dogs allowed except on public rights of way.

The building of the reservoirs at Lower Barden (operational 1860) and Upper Barden (1882) up on Burnsall Fell led to a reduction in the supply of water to Burnsall village much to their annoyance. Bradford Corporation Water Works bought up two water mills on the Joy Beck that no longer had an adequate supply of water to run them and they then had to pipe water to three points in the village for domestic use.
