For many people hill walking in the Yorkshire Dales means only one thing - the Three Peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. Whilst these are fine peaks there are many others which make a great day out, and we have picked out a few of our favourites, large and small, to tempt you to go somewhere different.
We also have our very own peak bagging list - the Dales 30. This was compiled by local author and walker, Jonathan Smith, and is a guide to walking the 30 peaks over 2000 feet (610m) high. This achievable challenge will take you to well known and relatively unknown parts of the Yorkshire and Cumbrian Dales. For more information see the Where2Walk website.
Please remember that although the Yorkshire Dales is not mountainous, the hills can still catch people out if you are unprepared - have a look at our Take Care page for more advice.
The views from many of our summits offer a fantastic panorama taking in the Lake District, Morecambe Bay and the North Pennines. Many of them make great first ascents and are popular with family groups such as Simon's Seat and Buckden Pike, or you could walk over Attermire or Great Asby Scars. Some peaks are tougher propositions such as in the Howgills , Wild Boar Fell or Great Shunner, but all are great peaks to climb.
