How long have you been a volunteer?
I have been a volunteer six or seven years.
Why did you want to become a volunteer?
Initially I was invited to help in the Victorian kitchen by Ann Holubecki who was looking for someone a little younger to carry on her role chatting to people as they pass through the Museum. From there Ann asked me to join the Friends of DCM Committee because she was retiring.
What do you do as a volunteer?
Apart from dressing up and chatting in the Victorian kitchen four times a year, I help at least once or twice a month in the Research Room, helping people who come in looking for family history and connections to the Dales.
What’s been your greatest achievement as a volunteer?
My greatest achievement was being invited to be a trustee of the Macfie/Calvert collection of books. This collection is a valuable resource for everyone interested in local history.
Where is your favourite place in the Yorkshire Dales National Park?
My favourite place has to be home, Coleby Hall near Askrigg. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
