The Dales Way is a long distance route which runs through the Yorkshire Dales as it journeys from the spa town of Ilkley to the shores of Windermere in the Lake District. A long section of the Dales Way in the National Park follows the River Wharfe between Bolton Abbey and Oughtershaw. This means that often the route is relatively flat, and so there are sections which lend themselves very well to being made more accessible for people of all abilities. You can find examples of this around Bolton Abbey, Burnsall and Buckden. In Grassington, the route was becoming eroded with use and so the footpath was surfaced very simply by digging a trench and filling this with aggregate. A group of around 25 volunteers gave up a couple of days to help.
