Description
The Yorkshire Three Peaks route gets an average of 60,000 visitors every year and suffers heavily from visitor damage. This activity aims to enhance the route by resurfacing & landscaping a 100 metre section of footpath.
The day’s activity would include preparing the path by digging out the route, laying a geotextile membrane, surfacing with aggregate and finally landscaping.
Your group would need to be prepared to get mucky and undertake a reasonable level of physical activity – but that’s part of the fun and hopefully along the way everyone will get a sense of satisfaction from making a real difference to the YDNP.
By volunteering for the day your team will be helping to:
- Repair an eroded section of footpath on Three Peaks route
- Provide a more sustainable route for future visitors
- Contribute to habitat recovery on an eroded section of path.
No previous skills are necessary and members of our Ranger team will guide your group through the day.
Suggested date for activity
A date for this activity can be arranged to suit your group. The ideal time would be October/ November or April/ May.
Number of volunteers required
Minimum number of 10. Different group sizes can be accommodated, but ideally a larger group of up to 20 people.

We will provide safety boots, gloves, tools and full supervision for the day. Individuals will require outdoor clothing that they don’t mind getting dirty and possibly wet weather gear (it has been known to rain - but that doesn’t stop the fun!)
The site is a short walk from parking, but with little in the way of facilities. The task involves a high level of physical activity requiring a good level of fitness.
Costs
We ask companies to make a donation to the National Park for our corporate volunteering opportunities. Revenue we raise from our Corporate Days helps us continue to look after the Yorkshire Dales National Park. For a group size of 10 we suggest a donation of £500.
